British Shorthair

The British
Shorthair could look as though it was meant to be cast in iron. It
is a large muscular cat, well "cushioned". It has a heavy, broad
chest - the shoulders and back are massive and broad as well. The
legs are short and solid with round and strong paws. The tail is
short and thick. The head is large and round with a well developed chin |
and a short and broad nose without a
stop. The neck is short and strong. The ears are small and set wide apart. The eyes are large, round and very open - they are set wide apart also. The fur is close and short, almost plush. It should be colored to the roots, except in the silver and tabby variants. |
The Temper
|
Temper-wise the British
Shorthair is calm and undisturbed. It is a lovely cat to show,
because it takes all the bustle in a stride. At home the British
Shorthair will spread an atmosphere of contemplative coziness and
is therefore very well suited for nervous and/or stressed people
who need an element of calm in their everyday lives. It is a mistake to draw the conclusion that the British Shorthair is stupid, placid, or boring. The British Shorthair is just as intelligent as the more lively breeds, but prefers to live its life in a calmer pace characterized by solid contemplation before it makes a decision. Often the decision will be that there is no need toact, but just as often the British Shorthair will act |
and it will then happen with a calm overview of the
situation that many people are envious of. It can, however, if the
decision is to play, gain such speed one would not have thought
possible of a cat of that heavy build. As the name indicates, the breed originates from Britain. In the beginning the only color for this breed was blue so the breed’s original name was British Blue. Later more and more colors and tabby variants appeared resulting in the British Shorthair now being available in all the colors also known in Persians. Not so long ago the British Shorthair was even acknowledged in color point varieties. |
The preferred hobby of a British Shorthair is quiet reflection ... |
