Devon Rex
By Ochremenko (N) Devon Rex cattery

In
1960 a lady in Devonshire in England had a curly kitten in a litter.
This cat
was named Kirlee and
is now-a-days considered the first
Devon Rex. First it was thought that the gene causing the curly fur was the same that gave the Cornish Rex its curls, but that proved to be wrong. These are two different mutations that give somewhat the same kind of fur.
Since then the breed has spread all over the world and today it is recognized in most associations.
Devon Rex is recognized in all colors, i.e. hundreds of different colors! That's why there are no points for color, but instead for fur quality.
It has almost exclusively underwool, and very little cover fur. The short, curly fur gives only little shedding and needs no care.
The Devon Rex is not suitable as an outdoor cat but is perfect as an indoor one. It loves warm spots and will often lie close to heat sources.
Devon Rex is a lively and bright cat. It will not feel comfortable when alone and prefers to be where things are happening. It goes well with other breeds. It will sit on your shoulder, and will comment everything you're doing, from the dishes to vacuum cleaning.
It is relatively easy to teach them simple things, but like most other cats they have a strong will of their own .......
They need somewhat more stimulation than other breeds because they are very social cats.
