| Q.:
Our cat has suddenly become
hostile; both towards visitors, but sometimes also towards my
boy-friend. If guests approach and want to take it up, it will hiss
loudly and assume attack position. If our guests have their little
babies with them, it threatens them in the same way. The other day we
were eating and the cat was purring and rubbing against my foot and
because it seemed so cuddly, my boy-friend took it on to his lap like
we always do. It has always only wanted to be up for a short while and
only in our arms like a baby. When he took it up it suddenly hissed
frenetically at him and he threw it down. On the floor it went on
hissing and looked as if it were about to attack so he grabbed it by
the neck skin and held it there. So it hung there hissing and peeing,
and we were both scared out of our wits. Has the cat gone mad and do we
have reason to be afraid of it? Will it have to be put down? Sv.: A change in behavior so sudden and inexplicable should always lead to a visit at the vet's. A probable explanation might be that the cat suffers from a disease that causes pain, maybe especially when it is lifted. I think you should get an appointment with the vet as soon as possible. |
