Q.: My cat Mystic always licks plastic grocery bags and won't stop licking them until I take the bags away. Why is this?

A.: I'm afraid I'm at a loss here. The only thing I know is that Mystic is not the only cat with this strange behavior. I think it is related to some cats' equally odd predilection for licking on newly developed photos. There must be some chemical in the surface which appeals to them. I even tried to phone Kodak in Denmark to see if they had any idea what might be in the coating of the photos to appeal so much to cats. But they were as much at a loss as I was. What I do know is that it is not harmful to Mystic in any way to lick the bags. The only harm plastic bags can do to cats is if they're lying around for them to play unattended with, because the cats may choke in the bag.
