Health Issues

Q.:I have two blue cats. My rescued animal shelter blue, Sable, has been with me for 3 years and is the bestest kitty. Lately I have noticed that her part of belly is nearly hairless and two nipples are very exposed. The exposed area does not appear to be inflamed, red, or sore. The rest of her coat is shiny and soft. She is an indoor cat and the alpha of the house. As such, Sable does not let my pedigree RB groom her much. I've have been brushing both cats as it is spring shedding time, but the bare belly area persists. Is there reason to be concerned?

A.:This may be a "variety within the normal", especially since the skin is intact and not sore. And since the rest of her fur is fine, it can't be a food insufficiency either. If the cat is otherwise in good condition and seems to be content with her life, I wouldn't worry too much about it but just mention it to the vet at the next routine visit. If the area should at any time increase in size, however, I would let a vet look at it.
