Q.: I have had my kitten for about four months now. She is about 7 months old, had up until now has been the only pet in the house.
We just got a new 13 week old lab puppy. Things are going ok put my cat tends to hiss and growl anytime the dog gets close. She doesn't hide from the dog and when the dog is sleeping she seems very curious and approaches, although she will have nothing to do with the puppy when awake.
Is this normal behavior? Will it subside or does something need to be done?
A.: This seems like perfectly normal behavior to me.
Cats generally take longer to accept new animals than dogs do. The fact that she doesn't hide from the dog and that her curiosity gets the better of her when the dog is asleep are very good signs.
I think you should relax and let time work things out for you.
