Q.: Which kind of flea protection should I use, and are they old enough at eight weeks, for one of them is scratching. And how can I clean them? Is there a spray available, if they get dirty and smelling?

A.: If you are sure the kittens have fleas (in that case you've probably been bitten yourself), you may use a product like Advantage®. It may be used from eight weeks and is quite easy to use: you drip it on the kitten's skin two different places at the back of the neck, and within 24 hours it will spread all over the kitten killing all grown fleas.
It will be effective for about a month if it is applied correctly. But if you want to get rid of the "plague" completely, you'll have to treat the surroundings as well with a remedy containing methoprene (available at the pet store). Methoprene is a growth hormone that will make eggs and larvae literally grow themselves to death. You can read more about fleas here.
Kittens (or grown cats for that matter) normally don't get dirty and smelling, so if they do, it's usually a sign that they are ill and need a vet. There is no spray that can handle it, a bath would be the only solution in that situation. The pet store has shampoos for the purpose.
