Other Behavior Issues

Q.: I've had my cat for a while and have recently moved into an apartment by myself. My cat loves this (he has a huge window and hated my last roommate) but with school, work and related activities I am gone quite a bit, up to fifty or so hours a week. My question is: how do you know when your cat needs a companion cat?

A.: To be honest, one doesn't always notice until one actually gets a second cat and then sees how happy the "old" one gets.
But if your cat clings to you literally every minute you're home and doesn't engage in any independent activities while you're there, it's a clear sign that a second cat would be a good idea.
On the other hand, the only way you can be quite sure is to try with a "buddy" for him and see how he reacts.
