Other Behavior Issues

Q.: I have recently moved in with my parents to attend school. My parents have 2 large dogs and 2 cats. We live in Georgia on a mountain, and my parent's animals are free to roam and have fun.
I brought with me my cat, Simba, who has no front claws and has been an indoor cat. Unfortunately, my parents won't allow Simba in the house, so he has been living in the basement so far.
I have two questions: would it be OK to let Simba outside with the other pets? (there are no large wild animals here, only squirrels and deer) And what is the best way to introduce my cat to the dogs? My parents dogs and the cats get along great, they all play and sleep together, I think it would be great if Simba could be pals with them too. Thanks for your help!

A.: The main concern in letting cats run free is traffic, and it doesn't seem there's much of that around you parents'.
In this case, however, there's another concern: a cat with no front claws is not so well equipped for outdoor life, especially not if there are other cats around.
Maybe you should get a harness and a leash for him and take him out for a walk a couple of times to see how he copes.
