Pregnancy, Birth, and Kittens

Q.: My cat had five kittens two weeks ago. Now she is in heat. Can she become pregnant?
Oral contraceptives and suckling kittens don't go well together, or?

A.: Yes, she can become pregnant again.
There is nothing that speaks against contraceptives for a nursing cat. According to the vets I've asked about this it has been established that it cannot harm the kittens in any way. Many breeders start up the cat on the pills almost right after birth.
On the other hand it is not good to give contraceptives to a female already in heat, it may cause infection in the womb, and may also cause the cat's whole hormonal system to mess up. So if it is possible at all, I think you should keep her inside until she is out of heat, and then start her up on contraceptives.
