Q.: I currently have two neutered males (over 2 years) and my husband adopted a stray female (approximately 8 months). They are in-door only cats and I live in a 3 bedroom apartment.
We took the stray to the vet and he said that he did not feel kittens, but keep in mind that she may be pregnant. We had her vaccinated and dewormed, but did not yet neuter in case she was pregnant. Now several weeks later, she seems pregnant and I do not know what problems I might encounter having her and the future kittens (until they are old enough to go to new homes) along with my neutered males.
Can you please tell me if I need to separate them or if there are just precautions that I might need to make?
A.: If the stray and the two neutered males are friends, you may not encounter any problems. On the contrary the reports of neutered males that make excellent "child minders" are numerous - especially when the kittens get old enough to appreciate a playful "uncle".
So it's all up to the mother and how she reacts. Let her give birth alone, and then let the "guys" come in for example the next day to say hello and observe how she reacts to their presence.
If she seems to find it OK, so can you :-)
