Q.: In the past month it seems as if the cat has begun shedding a lot .... is this natural?? Is there anything we can do - like changing food?? Brush it?? Something else?? It's primary food is dry food (Royal Canin KITTEN 34) and water ... apart from that it gets a treat now and then (mostly tuna and the like).

A.: It may be the natural Spring shedding that has set in already. To the cat's biology (it's originally from North Africa) it's already Spring now, and among feral cats it's hormone storm right now.
It will always help to brush the cat for example once a week, because it relieves the cat from loose hairs still sitting in the coat.
the food you're using is just fine. If the cat is perky and happy and behaves like usually, I wouldn't worry about, but maybe take it up with the vet at the next routine visit.
